The derelict Alston’s Yard site is poised for a major revamp that will help it play a major part in Lanark’s infrastructure.
The Lanark Community Development Trust plans to renovate the shed area for the use of the Lanimer Committee for Lanimer Lorry construction, clear up the derelict rubble and tarmac the site to provide additional parking spaces for the town.
There could also be the possibility of creating small business start-up units at the rear of the site and rebuilding the old wooden auction ring.
A feasibility study is planned for the coming months and SPT has also indicated its willingness to use the area as a part and ride scheme for local commuters to help ease congestion in the Royal Burgh.
The Trust has met with the Scottish Land Fund to discuss its ideas for the Alston’s Yard development and in order for the plans to come to fruition the Trust must obtain 10% of the public’s support – approximately 825 signatures – to enhance the application.
Lanark residents are encouraged to pledge their support by signing the petition to allow the Trust to work in partnership with the Lanimer Committee in their efforts to purchase the site on behalf of the community.
