St Kentigern’s Project Report Sept. 2014
Emergency repair works to the west gable area is about to start. Discussions between Historic Scotland, SLC (Danny Maxwell etc) and I have resulted in agreement for an L shaped gable restraint bracket to be manufactured and fitted to the wall head adjoining the gable. This should prevent any further expansion movement of the gable and thereby hopefully prevent the collapse of the gable. When fitted it allows the fallen timber arch support to be re-fitted ensuring the stability of the arch(s).
The monies for all of this work has been secured by the SLC and I thank them for their much needed help.
Sources for the necessary substantial Grant(s) funding for the remainder of the church ‘stabilising’ project (via the Development Trust) is currently being sought – including the upgrading etc. of the adjoining large Mausoleum building.
The SLC have also been busy clearing invasive vegetation and trees from inside and outside of the church.
They have also wire meshed the windows and the damaged roof areas of the large Mausoleum building to prevent the entry of birds and have agreed to clear the floor area of a substantial accumulation of bird fouling.
