Essential repairs have been carried out at St Kentigern’s Church to stabilise one of Lanark’s most important historical assets.
The building has been strengthened by two linked L-shaped restraint brackets which will support the gables of the structure in order to prevent possible gale damage.
JSK Construction Services were appointed by South Lanarkshire Council to carry out the repair work with design approval by Historic Scotland. The emergency repairs are expected to prevent any additional expansion and movement of the gables with the aim of preventing their collapse.
Funding for the repairs was provided by South Lanarkshire Council who set aside a five figure sum to allow the work to be carried out. Additional funding streams to stabilise the remainder of the church as well as the adjoining mausoleum building are currently being investigated by the Lanark Community Development Trust.
